You can experience the magnificent art and architecture of the University Library and Archives under the stars. Our guided tours are perfect for an evening with friends or family. Spend the night at our library and find out if the building really do come to life after hours. Our librarians will share with you the backstories, secrets, hidden nooks and crannies of the library.

The University Library and Archives of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), honoured with the Hungarian Heritage Award in 2018, is a scholarly institution enhancing education, teaching, and research at the Eötvös Loránd University. It is a special library open to the public, and at the same time the centre of the network of libraries belonging to the University, managing the IT background of library services. It is coordinating shared cataloguing and database building, the development of online services, and supports cooperation by counselling, and internal training.

The University Library was founded as the ’bibliotheca’ of the Jesuit College of Nagyszombat (now Trnava, Slovakia) by Miklós Oláh, the archbishop of Esztergom. It was transformed into a university library when Péter Pázmány, archbishop of Esztergom, founded the Jesuit University of Nagyszombat in 1635. Following the dissolution of the Jesuit order in 1773, both the university and the library became state institutions, and in 1779 they were moved to the Royal Castle in Buda. Upon Maria Theresa’s 1780 order, the university library received legal deposit copies, and from this time on it also functioned as the national library for a long time. In 1784 the university moved to Pest by the order of Joseph II. The library palace in Ferenciek tere (Ferenciek Square), in which the institution has been working ever since, was built in 1876 as one of the first important investments in higher education after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867). It was also the first public library of the capital.

Tisztelt Könyvtár Szolgálat! A SciFinder adatbázis elérésével kapcsolatban érdeklődöm. Egyetemi hálózatról próbáltam belépni, a bejelentkezéshez caesar azonosítót és jelszót megadva, de nem működött. Hogy tudnám a legegyszerűbben elérni az adatbázist?

Köszönjük az üzenetet! Kollégáink igyekszenek minél hamarabb elhárítani a problémát, 1-2 nap türelmet kérünk.
