The Hungarian Academy of Sciences will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2025. Among its members are many distinguished students and teachers who have left their mark not only on the Academy but also on the history of our institution. Ferenc Toldy (1805–1875), literary historian, university professor and former director of our library, was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 1830.

The Emerald publisher is offering trial access to its largest database (premier package) until March 31, 2025. The database, accessible via ELTE's local network or remotely through VPN, includes 13 modules, with 9 related to economics and others to healthcare, education, engineering, and information and knowledge management. This trial access is part of the EISZ offerings and can be subscribed to through EISZ.

The University History Collection holds around fifteen thousand frames, including negatives and paper photographs. The earliest images are from the 1880s, but most date from 1950 to 2000, depicting various university events and life. Digitised items are available in the ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Library, with a detailed report on the collection in the 2023 issue 4 of Archives Review by Georgina Schlay.

According to an agreement with the ELTE University Library and Archives, we will also host the popular ELTE–NFI University Film Club screening and discussion series beside the University Square campus. The film club, organised in cooperation between Eötvös Loránd University and the National Film Institute, will be hosted in two locations, with the cooperation of our library, and is expected to be held weekly from next semester. All ELTE citizens are welcome to attend these events.

The Web of Science Core Collection is a comprehensive scientific database that contains the most significant sources in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. In the webinar on January 29, participants will learn about effective methods of using the database and the possibilities of analyzing citation relationships. An exhibition on the life and work of Gusztáv Bárczi has opened in the library of the Gusztáv Bárczi Faculty of Special Education. Bárczi was a key figure in curative education, serving as director of the College of Curative Education from 1942 to 1963. The exhibition showcases unique documents from his legacy, highlighting the most important stages of his life.

On 6 December 2024, the exhibition „Fruits of Discord. Portraying the Ottoman Presence” opened at the Slovak National Gallery. The exhibition presents the interesting and dramatic history of Hungarian-Ottoman relations in the 16th and 17th centuries through the example of the cultural relations, including the Tamás Pálffy volume on loan from the ELTE University Library and Archives. The exhibition explores the period of Ottoman expansion in Hungary and the intercultural exchanges, with a special focus on Ottoman material culture in Central European art.
