Visitors are welcome without registration on the 23th of July 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm at the exhibition of the ELTE University Library and Archives. The 19th century physics laboratory allows us to discover and test the tools made and used by Eötvös Loránd. By testing the tools in the animated exhibition space it shows and deepens the knowledge of how the Eötvös scale demonstrates Earth’s rotation.
Between the 1st of August 2022 and the 3rd of September 2022, our library and Eötvös exhibition will be closed. We wish all our readers a pleasant summer and good rest!
The Association of Hungarian Archivists will hold its annual meeting in Székesfehérvár between the 11th and the 13th of July 2022. The head of our archive, Krisztina Tóth will give a lecture on the destruction of ELTE’s records in 1956.

According to our tradition, this year we joined the Night of Museums series of events, which included craft activities, concerts, guided tours, restoration workshops and an exhibition of books on medicine.
On the 7th of June 2022, an awareness-raising training for ELTE librarians was successfully organized by the Accessible Library Working Group of the University Library Service K21 Quality Management Coordination Committee at the Ecseri Road building of the Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education.
Some of Wiley’s hybrid journals will continue to operate as Gold Open Access journals from 2023. Although they will become Gold Open Access journals from January 2023, new submissions to the journal will be considered under the new Gold Open Access journal model from 2022 onwards.
The first quarterly report of the K21 Quality Management Coordination Committee took place in a meeting. Working group leaders reported on the results and changes of the last quarter.
The ELTE Museum of Natural History celebrated the 20th anniversary of its exhibitions on the 17th of June 2022. On the occasion of the jubilee, a festive toast was given by university leaders, as well as former and current staff members of the museum.
The University Library and Archives of Eötvös Loránd University continued to receive significant support from the Foundation for the University Library in 2021, with funds raised from various tenders, charitable donations and a percentage of personal income tax donations to help the continuous development of services.
On the 18th of June 2022, the Archival Picnic will be held for the fifth time in the Budapest City Archives. In addition to the various programs, the archives stand will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the work, publications and services of the archives. The guests can also visit the stand of the Hungarian Association of Higher Education Archives.
On the occasion of the Night of Museums, the Perczel globe will be presented at 20.00 in our Reading Hall by Dr. László Zentai, Vice-Rector for Education and Academic Affairs of the Eötvös Loránd University. The Professor will give a lecture on the history of László Perczel's globe. After the presentation the copy of the globe will be on display in the Director General's Room. The world map, which won first prize at the International Geographical Congress in Venice in 1881, was the largest Hungarian globe in Hungary until 1965.
The opening concert of the Night of Museums will be a string quartet from the "Eötvös" Art Ensemble at 6 p.m. More details about our programmes are available here and on our library website. All visitors are welcome!
