According to our tradition, we will join the Night of Museums on the 21st of June 2025. From 3 p.m. until midnight, our library welcomes all visitors with craft activities, fire enamelling and calligraphy workshops, film screenings, concerts, building tours, guided tours at the restoration workshop and our Jókai memorial exhibition. Tickets will be available at the entrance from the 2nd of June 2025.

Two extremely valuable and rare documents have been loaned by the ELTE University Library and Archives to the temporary exhibition entitled Magic Power – Knowledge. Community. Academy, organised jointly by the Hungarian National Museum and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition was opened on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with the aim of providing an insight into the history of the formation and development of Hungarian scientific thought.

The LIBER leadership training program, which was announced for middle managers, ended in April 2025. The program aims to support middle managers of research libraries in expanding their leadership knowledge and developing their skills. Participants were able to acquire the knowledge and competencies necessary for performing middle management tasks in the framework of five thematic modules.

Due to technical reasons, the Reading Hall and the Community Room from the Lobby will be open to readers on 8 May 2025 (Thursday) between 9.00 and 11.00 at the ELTE University Library and Archives.

A new digital infrastructure has been established under the name ELTE Thesis Repository to support the archiving and lawful dissemination of theses, as well as student research papers submitted for the Scientific Students' Associations Conference (TDK) and the National Scientific Students' Associations Conference (OTDK).

The documents of the Hungarian Institute of Public Administration, founded by professor Zoltán Magyary (1888–1945), an internationally renowned scholar of public administration, and Magyary's personal legacy were preserved by the Department of Public Administration Law of the Faculty of Political Science and Law of ELTE. In 2015 and 2017, ELTE and NKE concluded an agreement on the digitization and public publication of the legacy, as a result of which NKE handed over the digitized documents to the University Library and Archives in December 2023. 1 404 items can already be searched and researched in the ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Base, and the documents and maps will be managed by the University Archives from 2022.

The ELTE–NFI University Film Club continues the series of screenings and discussions. We welcome university citizens from all faculties of ELTE.

The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 5th of May 2025 and the 14th of June 2025 until 22.00 hours. Our new community space offers the opportunity to learn, relax, use kitchen facilities and free computer access.

Qulto held its annual professional day on February 26, 2025 at the Szabó Ervin Library in Budapest, where ELTE representatives, László Nemes PhD and Tibor Móring, gave presentations on the digital curriculum repository subproject. The presentations focused on the archiving and reusability of open access digital curriculum. In addition, they presented the concept of the development of the ELTE curriculum repository and the most important results of the survey conducted in 2024.

According to the rector’s directive at ELTE, the full texts of scientific publications must be deposited in the university’s repository, a process supported by the University Library and Archives through the archiving of Gold Open Access publications. In the first quarter of 2025, 1,072 documents published in 2022 and an additional 298 articles published in 2024 under the Read & Publish agreement provided by EISZ were uploaded. Currently, a total of 15,281 scientific publications are accessible in the ELTE Digital Institutional Repository.

The ELTE University Library and Archives held four online lectures on the management, sharing and archiving of research data in the spring of 2025, which were attended by approximately seventy people. The lectures covered the life cycle of research data, the FAIR guidelines, and the grants and services available at ELTE. The materials of the lectures are available in the ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Archive (EDIT).

The ELTE–NFI University Film Club, run by Eötvös Loránd University in cooperation with the National Film Institute, is a special, off-site event for university citizens from any faculty of ELTE. The National Film Institute's Film Archive will offer the opportunity to visit the film archive for a screening and discussion.

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2025. Among its members are many distinguished students and teachers who have left their mark not only on the Academy but also on the history of our institution. Sándor Szilágyi (1827–1899) historian, library director, editor was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 1873.

During the Easter holidays, between the 18th of April and the 21st of April 2025, the ELTE University Library and Archives is closed.

The presentation of the recently published volumes of the Mátyás Bél Neolatin Workshop of the Research Centre for the Humanities will take place on 15 April 2025 at 16.00 at the ELTE University Library and Archives. All visitors are welcome!
