Two hundred and fifty years ago, in 1773, Pope Clement XIII dissolved the Jesuit order, accelerating the process of the university's transfer to the state. Between 1635 and 1773, many distinguished Jesuits of great knowledge taught at our university, leaving a lasting mark on the history of the institution. In January our feature is on the Jesuit teacher György Dobronoki.

In Christmas time 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives awarded the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Certificate of Merit to Anna Orbókné Jagiello and Kinga Sutócki, staff members of the Collection Management Department, thanking them for their high quality and prestigious professional work.

The 2023 calendar of the ELTE University Library and Archives presents the Jesuit missions of the early modern period through some of the library's museum publications.

On the 1st of September 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives organised the tenth conference entitled Traditions and Challenges. This year's programme included presentations on the themes of Preserve, Protect, Serve and Preservation Practices in Higher Education Libraries.

The latest issue of the university history journal Gerundium (vol. 13., nos. 3–4.) contains several studies on the history of our university. Péter Tusor provides new data on the papal recognition of the university's foundation in Nagyszombat in 1635, Zsolt Kökényesi describes the aristocratic students who studied at the University of Nagyszombat between 1616 and 1773, László Szögi analyses the composition, social stratification and changes in the number of students at the University of Nagyszombat, Krisztina Tóth explains the circumstances of the tragic destruction of the university’s records in the 1950s.

New volume, "Practices of Research Data Management: Established procedures and pilot projects" has been published by the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and it is available online for free.

As of January 1st 2023, the L'Harmattan Digital Database will be available under a new name and at a new location that is the L'Harmattan Open Access és Archive platform.

At the fourth quarterly report of the K21 Quality Coordination Committee 2022, the leaders of the working groups reported on the results of the past quarter, ongoing work and changes.

There have been personnel changes on the board of trustees of the Foundation for the University Library. Dr. Edit Madas academician, and Judit Osskó architect, were admitted to the Board of Trustees as new members.

The quota for fully open journals (258) in the 2022 agreement with Springer has recently been exhausted on the 6th of December 2022. The possibility to publish in the publisher's corresponding hybrid journals is not affected by this exhaustion, authors are welcome to continue submitting manuscripts to these journals, and all APC applications received may be approved.

Due to technical reasons, the ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on Saturday, on the 10th of December 2022. From Monday, from the 12th of December 2022, we will be open again. Thank you in advance for your understanding and supporting cooperation.

Our series entitled “Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is the seal of the Faculty of Law, 1848.
