Night of Museums at the ELTE University Library and Archives

According to our tradition, we will join the Night of Museums on the 25th of June 2022. From 3 p.m. in the afternoon until midnight, our library welcomes all visitors with craft activities, concerts, guided tours, restoration workshops and an exhibition of medicine books. Tickets will be available at the entrance from the 10th of June 2022! Detailed programmes are available here and on the Night of Museums' website.

Our bookbinding workshop is open for children and adults from 15.00 this year.

Our evening programmes open at 6 p.m. with a concert by the ELTE „Eötvös” Art Ensemble String Quartet.

On our library tours, visitors can learn about the history of the library palace and the Perczel Globe, and take a look behind the scenes at our historic library. Guided by our restorer, you can gain an insight into paper-casting and bookbinding techniques, along with the process of book disinfection.

From 7 p.m., we invite you to the vernissage of our medicine books.

There will also be a presentation of the Perczel Globe from 8 p.m. The giant globe was awarded the first prize at the International Geographical Congress in Venice in 1881. With a diameter of 127.5 centimetres, it was the largest Hungarian globe in Hungary until 1965. Three copies were made of the Perczel Globe, one was placed in the National Széchényi Library, one in the Prime Minister's Office, the Carmelite Monastery and one in the Eötvös Loránd University, in the Director General's Room of the ELTE University Library and Archives.

The night roam will be enriched by guitar concerts at 8.30 p.m. and 10 p.m., performed by István Ádám, guitarist.

The doors of the Eötvös Exhibition will also be open, where you can learn about the life and work of Loránd Eötvös through our interactive tools and the instruments of the researcher.

All visitors are welcome!

Photo, audio and video recordings will be made of the events. The recordings will be published on the websites, publications, forums and social media of the participating institutions.
