Based on feedback from our users, we have renewed our INeedABook service, which allows you to suggest books for purchase if they are not available in our library.

The simplified interface is now available on our website. After authentication with the reader card, it is possible to send a purchase proposal by filling in a few fields.

We do our best to fullfil your request as soon as possible considering the collection circuit of the library, and depending on the availability of the publication. However, you have to count with a waiting time of at least two weeks in the case of Hungarian, and four weeks for foreign books.

On Friday, July 2, 2021, between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, the Hungarian National Archives (Budapest IX., Vágóhíd u. 7.) will hold the VII. Medieval Book Fair with the participation of nearly twenty book publishers. The latest publications of our archive’s series „Hungarian Students at Medieval Universities” will also be available at the event. 

An exhibition on the history of the Pauline order was opened at the Hungarian National Museum between 15th June 2021 and 12th September 2021, where several Pauline manuscripts and prints keep from our library are also presented, including the following manuscripts: A 115, Cod. Lat. 115, Cod. Lat. 131.

The exhibition organized on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the death of Boldog Özséb, the founder of the order, gives a comprehensive picture of the only Hungarian monastic order founded and still operating in Hungary. The order, established around 1250, today has a presence of nearly half a thousand members, on four continents, in sixteen countries.

Considering that the Hungarian origin of the order and the history of the Hungarian order range are little known, the exhibition mainly presents the Pauline and modern life of the Paulines, highlighting the historical role of the Polish center (Częstochowa).

The exhibited objects (archeological finds, medieval manuscripts, modern prints, liturgical objects, numerous sculptures, paintings and engravings) testify to the rich heritage of the order.

The Library Council unanimously approved the new communication strategy of the ELTE University Library Service.

As the first library in Hungary, the ELTE University Library Service (EKSZ) was awarded the EFQM “Commitment to Excellence” certificate in 2020. Within the framework of the tender, as part of the EKSZ communication development project, an action plan was prepared on the basis of questionnaire surveys in order to continuously improve the communication culture of the institutional network, use the available opportunities and resources more effectively, update the communication strategy and restructure information transmission.

In order to achieve the set goals, the Communication Coordination Committee of the Library Council was established. The mission of the committee is to support the continuous quality improvement and target group-oriented communication of the EKSZ with the available resources.

The first task of the Communication Coordination Committee, following a comprehensive situation analysis, was to prepare the EKSZ communication strategy and related action plan, which was adopted unanimously by the Library Council at its meeting on 18 June 2021. EISZ (Electronic Information Service National Programme) Secretariat and Clarivate Analytics are organizing a webinar on June 21, 2021.

The webinar provides an introduction to the various capabilities of MetaCore application. During this online lecture more information about research on diseases and drug’s impact on a disease at the molecular level will be shared.

On Sunday, June 20, 2021 the historical memorial sites of Eötvös Loránd University will also open their doors at the Memorial Day event.

The Trefort Garden, established in the second half of the 1800s, served as the center of scientific and technical education in Hungary. It was named after Ágoston Trefort, the Minister of Religion and Public Education, who supported the establishment of the campus. András Kristó Kósa-Grimm historian and Georgina Schlay, the museologist of the University Library and Archives, will present the history of the buildings and monuments, these separate human destinies, and the exceptional life of Loránd Eötvös.

A virtual version of our popular periodical exhibition entitled Under the spell of Accuracy. The Life and Work of Loránd Eötvös is now available.

Through the family heritage, life path, physical and geophysical experimental tools of Loránd Eötvös, the exhibition provides an insight into the life, scientific achievements and way of thinking of the scientist teacher, as well as the everyday life behind him.

Wandering around our virtual exhibition spaces – in addition to viewing contemporary documents and instruments – you can immerse yourself in the world of physics and one of the greatest figures in the history of Hungarian science with exciting video and audio materials, interactive and quiz games.

The five virtual spaces – An Exceptional Life Path, Physics Archive, Sensational Science, In the Footsteps of Eötvös, Eötvös’ Stereo Images – can be accessed separately from the main page, but you are also able to navigate with the help of the forward and backward arrows. We are waiting for you with renewed content and user-friendly appearance from June 2, 2021 on the website of the ELTE University Library and Archives at konyvtar.elte.hu. From a separate main menu item, the joint website of the ELTE University Library Service (EKSZ) is still available, but it can also be opened independently from eltekonyvtarak.elte.hu/en. In our article, we summarize the most important information to help our users navigate on the new portal.

On the interface of the new portal and on the library websites – in line with the image of Eötvös Loránd University and modern trends – we publish our results, modern services and information related to our operations in an authentic and wide range for ELTE citizens and partners.

A vast majority of librarians at the ELTE University Library and Archives participated in the renewal of the website, taking into account the suggestions, requests and comments of our readers and library users. We have redrafted a number of texts, information materials and forms to help our users find their way around and serve them more efficiently.

In order to facilitate the search, we have placed two search boxes in the upper bar of the konyvtar.elte.hu page, thus our readers are immediately able to browse the contents of the catalog and EDIT, as well as the website.

The content of the portal is divided into six main menu items. In the Library menu, we collected the most important information related to the use of the ELTE University Library and Archives and the library services, thematically structuring our available services for our target groups.

In line with the mission statement of the university, the Research Support, as a key service profile of the library, received a separate menu item. Under the Archives menu item you can read about our archival services and events, the subpage can also be loaded from leveltar.elte.hu. In the Support Us menu, you can get to know the purpose and work of the Foundation for the University Library, as well as information about our book adoption program and donation opportunities. We also provide an appearance on the interface for our sponsors and partners.

The Savaria menu item guides you to the Savaria Library and Archives page of the Eötvös Loránd University Library and Archives.

You can find out more about our new collection coordination network, whose mission is to map and make visible the cultural heritage preserved by the university, under the Heritage menu item. The Heritage subpage can also be found at orokseg.elte.hu.

Under the menu item ELTE Libraries, the common services, news, and member library contacts of the University Library Service will open. In response to the needs of each faculty, our member libraries have created separate pages on the faculty websites, to which we provide an opportunity to proceed.

The interface is also suitable for sharing the latest information and professional successes, documents and good practices created during continuous quality improvement. Our goal for the ELTE University Library and Archives website is to function as a professional knowledge sharing portal.

From our website, we also provide information on our library history guides and museum book and restoration workshop presentations to a wider audience interested in culture.

The display of news and programs has also been renewed. From the main page, you can easily find out about our library, research support and foundation content, and we have tried to make the most frequently used interfaces available with a single click.
